Pizza. Enough said.
No really, I could go on and on about the history, the endless possibilities, and ways to prepare it – but I think you know 😄
What I want to share today is a pretty awesome pizza dough recipe, my favorite thing to add to this recipe is a little Italian seasoning and some cheese – yum! I usually divide the dough in half to make a thin crust. My choice of toppings for this pizza was sliced red onion and green pepper, garlic, fresh basil, and fresh mozzarella slices. Then I sprinkled oregano all over it. Great for meatless Mondays!
1 (.25 ounce) package instant rapid rise yeast
1 teaspoon white sugar
1 cup warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
2 1/2 cups flour
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoon salt
Preheat oven to 450 degrees
Stir flour, sugar, yeast, salt and oil together in mixer or by hand. With mixer on slow, slowly pour in water until the dough comes together and is coming away from the side of the bowl for about 5 minutes. Add more flour or water depending on the consistency. Let rest for 5 minutes.
Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and pat or roll into a round. Transfer crust to a lightly greased pizza pan or baker’s peel dusted with cornmeal. Spread with desired toppings and bake in preheated oven for 15 to 20 minutes, or until golden brown. Let baked pizza cool for 5 minutes before serving.
For thin crust, divide dough in half and make 2 pizzas, or freeze half the dough for later.
